Keven's Naval Radio Station Web Page

This is just a short summary of my tour of duty at the Naval Radio Station in Derry, Northern Ireland.

I arrived in Derry in July of 1957, and departed in September of 1960 after a stay of 38 months. I arrived as a seaman radioman apprentice and left as a Radioman 2nd Class drawing professional pay.

Shortly after a large group of radiomen arrived, Navradsta was involved in the NATO Operation's "Strikeback." This was quite an experience for our group, as we were just out of radio school. Another historic moment was when we were in communications with the nuclear powered submarine SSN571 Nautilus after its trip from the Pacific to the Atlantic under the polar cap.

I enjoyed my 38 months duty at Navradsta Derry. I married a local girl from the Waterside. We visit Derry every 4 to 5 years. I hope these pictures bring back some old memories.

ENJOY!
